Frequently Asked Questions
Can complete beginners come to JT Pro Center?
+
Yes. A lot of our guests are complete beginners. We can help you start with kitesurfing or wing foiling, depending on what you want to learn, your confidence in the water, and the conditions during your stay. You can also read more about our kitesurfing lessons and wing foil lessons.
Should I learn kitesurfing or wing foiling first?
+
It depends what you want. Kitesurfing gives more of the flying and jumping feeling once you progress. Wing foiling is easier to set up and can be easier to practice in more places. If you are not sure, read our guide about kitesurfing vs wing foiling or message us and we will recommend the best option for you.
How many lessons should I plan?
+
For kitesurfing, most guests should plan several lessons if they want to really start riding and become close to independent. For wing foiling, you can usually understand the wing quite fast, but learning to fly on the foil takes more time. For more detail, read our beginner guides on how long it takes to learn kitesurfing and how long it takes to learn wing foiling.
Do I need to book accommodation with you?
+
Guests staying with us normally have priority for lessons, gear, excursions, and spot support because it lets us plan the whole trip properly. If you are already staying somewhere else or passing through by boat, still message us. We will tell you honestly what is possible depending on availability. You can also see our current accommodation on Union Island.
Can you help with accommodation on Union Island?
+
Yes. We can help with Mer & Sel Villa and Suites and other suitable options depending on your dates, group size, and budget. Tell us if you want a villa, a suite, or something simpler, and we will check what makes the most sense. You can start with our Union Island accommodation page.
How do I get to Union Island?
+
Most guests fly through Barbados or Saint Vincent, then take a short inter-island flight or ferry to Union Island. The routes do not always show clearly on normal flight searches, so send us your dates and country of origin and we can help you understand the best route. You can also read our getting here guide.
Do I need to bring my own kite or wing gear?
+
No, not always. We have Duotone kitesurfing and wing foil gear available for lessons and rental. If you are an experienced independent rider, renting can also save you traveling with board bags. Tell us your level, weight, and what you want to ride so we can check availability. You can also check our kite and wing gear rental page.
Can I rent gear if I am still learning?
+
No. Gear rental is only for experienced independent riders. If you are still learning, lessons are the safer and better option first. We can tell you honestly if you are ready to rent or if you should book more instruction. You can see the rental conditions on our gear rental page.
Can non-kiters or partners join the trip?
+
Yes. Union Island is good for people who are not kiting too. They can relax, explore the island, join boat trips, go snorkeling, visit nearby beaches, or just enjoy the accommodation and island life while you ride. You can also look at our Union Island guide and Grenadines guide.
Can we do a Grenadines kite cruise or boat excursion?
+
Yes, depending on your level and the conditions. We organize boat-supported kite and wing trips around the Grenadines, including places like Mayreau, Tobago Cays, Frigate, Mopion, and Palm Island when conditions are right. Some trips are better for experienced riders, so tell us your level first. You can read more about our Grenadines kite cruises and excursions.
What happens if there is no wind?
+
We always plan around the wind as much as possible, but wind is still nature. If conditions are not right for your planned lesson, we adjust the timing when possible. Some days are better for lessons, some for trips, some for relaxing or exploring the island. You can read more about the season on our best time to learn kitesurfing and wing foiling page.
When is the best time to come?
+
The main kite and wing season is usually from mid-November through June, with the strongest and most reliable months often between December and June. July can also work some years, but it is better to ask us before planning around July. For more detail, see our best time to come guide.
