PROXIMITY TO UNION ISLAND

IT is also a misconception that you can only visit the kite Spot via sailing as the graphic below shows the proximity of all of the spots to and from Union Island.

Sailing from Martinique to Union Island takes approximately 15 to 20 hours one way.
Sailing from St Lucia to Union Island takes approximately 10 to 15 hours one way.
Flying from Barbados, St Lucia or Martinique to Union Island takes only ONE HOUR!

THE JT PRO CENTER – UNION ISLAND

The spot is a lagoon of amazing colours with flat water and Kitebeach amenities such as day beds, a beach bar where available, air compressor, beach boys, and boat safety.

To kite on your own on this spot you need to be a confident rider/ go upwind consistently. This is not a good spot for beginners if you are on your own and not taking lessons with us and our safety boat.

It is the most amazing place in the world to learn Kitesurfing safely with the Kitesurfing School.

The beach is situated next to the center of town with the restaurants and bars.
You can also stay right on the kite spot by booking one of the Kitebeach cottage.

FRIGATE – UNION ISLAND

10 min From The JT Pro Center

The JT Pro Center organizes downwinders to Frigate island as this spot is located only at a 10 min boat ride away from the JT Pro Center on Union Island. Check out our kite excursions here.

Frigate is also an amazing foil spot with deep enough water to practice your foiling skills.

The wind can be a little more gusty than at the JT Pro Center on North/ North-east direction.

BIG SAND WAVE SPOT – UNION ISLAND

10 min From The JT Pro Center

A wide beach of white sand, with blue waves of varying size depending on the swell.

The wind is sideshore and the waves are easy. On no wind days Big Sand is a good spot to learn surfing. This spot works best on North East winds.

The newly opened Sparrow’s beach bar and restaurant is a great place to have lunch.

MAYREAU ISLAND

15min From The JT Pro Center

The spot is called Salt Whistle Bay and is a favored anchor spot among sailors visiting The Grenadines.
A thin sand spit is separating the bay where the boats anchors from the kite spot. This makes it an excellent spot to bring non kiting friends and partners, they can relax in the calm bay protected from the wind, while you kite on the other side, just 10 meters away.

The bay where we kite is protected by a reef, and has waves on the outside, and small kickers to play with on the inside.

THE TOBAGO CAYS

15min From The JT Pro Center

Here you are guaranteed to see big turtles when snorkeling, in addition to a rich sea life, beautiful fish of all colours and sizes, and majestic rays floating by.

Kitesurfing in the Tobago Cays is an amazing experience: it is a beautiful, huge lagoon of the clearest shades of blue but very choppy and not very fun for freestyle or jumping.

You must launch your kite from James By. The wind is on shore and much weaker on the beach so be careful when launching your kite. You can also lunch from Petit Tabac where you need to be careful with the reef.

It is forbidden to launch from Baradal (the sandy island where the turtle watching is located) and it is also not allowed to kite between the sailboats anchored.

A great way to go back to Union is to go downwind by your kite if you have a very good level.

PALM ISLAND WAVE SPOT

15min Upwind kite From The JT Pro Center

The best way is to launch from our kite center spot on Kitebeach on Union Island. The waves are located at a 15min ride upwind. You must be an advanced Kitesurfer to go to ride the waves on Palm Island and always bring a friend with you for assistance.

MORPION ISLAND

18min From The JT Pro Center

A lonely umbrella provides the only shadow on Morpion. The spot isn’t the best as the reef surrounding it is very close to the island making it very shallow at low tide and very small but everyone must see this sandy island once in their life. It is a great place to start a downwinder back to JT Pro Center by South East winds.
If other people present on the islands kiteboarders must respect swimmers and other people on the beach as this island is also visited by families and tourists. It is not recommended to launch your kite when other people are present.
