Month-by-month guide for kitesurfing and wing foiling in the Grenadines

Best Time to Learn Kitesurfing and Wing Foiling in the Caribbean

If you are wondering when to learn kitesurfing in the Caribbean, Union Island in the Grenadines is one of the strongest options from November to June. July can still work in some years, but current conditions should be confirmed before booking.

The main JT Pro Center kite and wing foil season usually starts in November and runs through June, with December to June usually the most reliable period for warm trade winds, warm water, and no wetsuit needed.

Best time to learn kitesurfing in the Caribbean

Union Island is located farther south in the Caribbean, where the trade winds are often stronger and more consistent than many kite destinations farther north. This is one of the reasons the Grenadines are such a good place to learn kitesurfing and learn wing foiling.

The wind usually ranges between 15 and 25 knots, with some stronger days and a few lighter days depending on the week. Because the wind is warm, we often recommend guests bring a slightly bigger kite than they would normally use in colder wind.

If you bring your own equipment, check the forecast a few days before your trip so you know whether to bring a smaller kite, a bigger kite, or adjust your gear for the week.

Do not trust generic weather apps too much

Generic weather apps are often misleading in the Grenadines.

Your phone may show rain almost every day, but this does not mean it rains all day. Small showers can pass quickly, and many days that look rainy on an app are actually sunny, windy, and great for kitesurfing.

During the main windy season, the weather is usually good for kitesurfing. Short showers can happen, but long periods of bad weather are not common during the main kite season.

Where to learn kitesurfing in November

November is the start of the kitesurfing season in the Grenadines.

If you want to come in November, we usually recommend coming from around the 15th of November onward. The wind can already be good, but because it is the beginning of the season, it can have more ups and downs.

November can be a good choice if you are flexible and want to come before the busier winter travel period.

Where to learn kitesurfing in December

December is a very strong month to learn kitesurfing in the Grenadines.

The trade winds start becoming more consistent, the water is warm, and the island is entering the main kite season.

You can get a few scattered showers or small squalls, but they usually pass quickly. Most of the time, December gives you warm weather, beautiful water, and solid wind between 15 and 25 knots.

Where to learn kitesurfing in May

May is a very good month to come kitesurfing in the Grenadines.

The wind is still good, the weather is warm, and the spots are usually quieter. Because the European kite season starts again around this time, fewer European guests travel to the Caribbean, which means more space on the water.

For learning, this can be very comfortable. Less traffic means a calmer environment, more space, and a better experience for beginners.

Where to learn kitesurfing in June

June is also a very good month for kitesurfing and wing foiling in the Grenadines.

The trade winds are still active, the water is warm, and the spots are usually not crowded.

For learning to kitesurf, June gives you warm water, steady wind, and more space to practice. This makes it a good month for private lessons and progression.

Can you learn kitesurfing in July?

July can still work for kitesurfing in the Grenadines, but it is better treated as a variable shoulder option rather than the core season.

The wind can still be good and the spots are usually quiet, but conditions should be checked before booking if July is your target month.

For the strongest planning window, focus on November to June, especially December to June.

Kitesurfing in August, September, and October

August, September, and October are not the months we usually recommend for a kitesurfing holiday in Union Island.

The wind is usually lighter, the season is less consistent, and JT Pro Center is usually not fully open during this period.

If your goal is to learn kitesurfing, improve quickly, or book a proper kite holiday, it is better to come between November and July.

Best time to learn wing foiling in the Caribbean

Wing foiling follows the same main Union Island wind season as kitesurfing: November to June, with December to June usually the most reliable period.

If your main goal is to learn wing foiling, February, March, April, May, and June are especially useful months because the trade winds are usually active and the water is warm enough to spend time practicing without a wetsuit.

Some lighter days can still be useful for wing foil practice depending on your level, board, foil, and wing size, while stronger trade-wind days may suit riders with more control. Send JT Pro Center your dates, level, weight, and gear plan before traveling so the team can recommend the best setup for the week.
