Before you pack
Check the wind close to your trip
If you want to know which kite or wing to pack, check Windguru or Windy just before you travel. The forecast will help you decide whether to leave the small kite or the big kite at home, but remember that warm trade winds usually feel a little softer than colder winds, so you may sometimes choose one size bigger than you would in colder air.

Usual wind range
Most windy days sit around 15 to 25 knots, with about 20 knots as a useful average. Some days are stronger and some days are lighter, so a last check before departure helps you decide what to pack.

Weather app rain warnings
Phone weather apps often show rain for the area, but that does not always mean it will rain on a small island like Union Island. During the dry season, the island can go months with little or no rain.

What to expect through the year
Warm weather year round
High season builds from mid-November to the end of July, sunny, very little rain and great trade winds to cool the hot days. August to October can still be lovely, with brief morning showers clearing by afternoon.
Excellent wind & temperature
The trade winds often start slowly around mid-November, then become more consistent from December to the end of July. With air at 30°C and water at 28°C, you never need a wetsuit.
Quieter season, Aug to Oct
Union Island is in the southern Caribbean. The kite center closes from August to the beginning of November for the low wind season, but rooms are still available to rent. Weather can still be beautiful in this period, but wind is less reliable, so confirm plans close to your dates.
